Jack gazed at the yellowed paper, its text faded due to the passage of centuries. A not unpleasant smell of dust filled his nostrils.

"I take it this is the original?"

The clerk nodded. "We were told you'd want to see it."

Jack only smiled.

"I don't suppose you'd care to explain it," the narrow-eyed, fortyish woman said. "A property deed like this..."

"It's complicated."

"I couldn't imagine you being here if it wasn't." She leaned toward him and lowered her voice. "Is this one of those time travel things?"

"I can't say," Jack told her, his face stern.
